Teaching summer school is an important job. You are the reason they’re not prone to the summer slide and you’re helping set them up for summer success. If teaching summer school, implement these 6 tips:

  1. Have empathy
  2. Try new strategies
  3. Offer incentive and rewards
  4. Collaborate with others
  5. Use your time wisely
  6. Have consistent communication with parents

Something to keep in mind is that students are probably reluctant to be spending their summer in school, which is why it’s important to make your lessons effective and engaging, all while still being fun for you and your students. Make sure to push your lessons to a new implementation and avoid recycling activities from the previous school year. Try new strategies or rewards to spark the attention and attendance of the students attending. Remember, now is the time to change the environment to add some fun!

Whatever your reason is for teaching summer school, know you are making a difference. Being that positive and empathetic face during the summer will help boost their self-esteem and confidence when it comes to learning and their education. After implementing these 6 tips, you will definitely have a successful summer school!
