Listen to the full episode to hear how to reset your relationships with parents:
I don’t know about you, but I have really been enjoying this Resetting Series to start off this new 2022 year! We’ve talked about topics such as routines and writing blocks, but this episode will be focused on something more pragmatic: parents. It is never too late to reset your relationship with parents, or as I like to call them,”your student’s grown ups!” This episode is important for so many reasons, and I’m going to share those with you today.
Since the pandemic started back in 2020 a lot of attention has been put on building relationships with students in creative ways. It is also necessary to consider how relationships with parents have become more challenging these last few years as well. Making connections with these adults without in-person interactions may have been difficult, but I’m going to share tips that will foster a sense of communication and trust between both teachers and parents.
I am fully aware that teachers have so many responsibilities and responding to emails from twenty to thirty parents each week can be overwhelming. By using my tips to communicate with parents in a more effective manner, I guarantee you will save time and energy. I will even give you ideas to involve parents in your classroom that are not only fun, but will strengthen the trust you have with each other.
In my experience, it is much easier to get parents involved earlier rather than later and try to share positive messages as much as possible. Once you figure out which of these strategies work best for you, there’s no doubt you and your student’s grown ups will work as a team towards student success! To celebrate the month of February being Black History Month, join me next week as I focus on one of my favorite genres: biography.
In this episode on how to reset relationships with parents, I share:

- 3 areas to form healthy relationships with parents
- 5 simple and effective ways to communicate with parents
- How to support parents and students at home
- 5 fun ways I have gotten parents involved in my classroom
